Many people, upon first reading this poem, think that this is a love poem. Interestingly enough though, Lord Byron wrote this poem after seeing his newly-widowed cousin clothed in a black mourning gown. His poem comments on her beauty and calm grace.
She walks in beauty, like the night Of cloudless climes and starry skies; And all that's best of dark and bright Meet in her aspect and her eyes: Thus mellow'd to that tender light Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
One shade the more, one ray the less, Had half impair'd the nameless grace Which waves in every raven tress, Or softly lightens o'er her face; Where thoughts serenely sweet express How pure, how dear their dwelling place.
And on that cheek, and o'er that brow, So soft, so calm, yet eloquent, The smiles that win, the tints that glow, But tell of days in goodness spent, A mind at peace with all below, A heart whose love is innocent!

| I've been pouring into my big lit books as of late and have just been astounded by some of the great stuff I've forgotten about or looked over. It's so crazy. so, without further adieu - here is the first of many new entries showcasing various works. Feel free to offer thoughts or opinions. If not, I don't really care.I love this one.
Heart, We will forget him You and I - tonight You may forget the warmth he gave- I will forget the light
When you have, pray tell me That I may straight begin Haste! lest while you're lagging I remember him
- Emily Dickinson

| i'm sitting here in okc watching tom petty with my dad. i doesn't get much better than this. as i was scrolling through the television channels last night i was reminded just how handsome dave grohl is.i mean, big time. Say what you will . . . i'm in love. he's like a big, burly bad ass who just happens to have amazing hair, a nice big white set of teeth, and used to play in nirvana. is it socially acceptable to walk outside in your robe? let's hope so because I just did at like 2:30 in the afternoon in front of a lot of construction workers. but i mean, i'm fully clothed right? hmmmmm thoughts. | | |
| "videotape" by radiohead on in-rainbows is the most beautiful thing i've heard in quite some time
i passed my osat tests and just found out i'm student teaching right here at ole stillwater high. no commute for meeeeee. i'm getting too old to drive anyways. I mean, by this time next year I could have my own students if I wanted to. wowie, that makes me feel weird and old. I started xanga-ing when i was seventeen. It's funny looking back at all my old entries. I still remember posting my eighteenth birthday post like it was yesterday hahaha this is so crazy.
